Thank you for supporting The Junior League of Midland, Inc.'s Shotguns & Stilettos! Because of your faithful support, the Junior League develops the potential of women, improves the community and promotes volunteerism. Specifically, you are helping to "build a better Midland," through these community projects.

Face the Race was created with the objective of increasing self-esteem in teenage girls ages thirteen to fourteen, a crucial time in a young girl’s life. These girls need confidence and the ability to set goals and achieve them. Face the Race is an after-school program held at Abell, Goddard, Alamo & San Jacinto Junior Highs and it includes physical fitness training and courses on women’s health. The girls are taught goal setting skills and are then given the opportunity to reach our program goal of running the 5K race in November. Every girl that finishes the program walks away with pride and high self-esteem because they know they can set and reach goals. 

Scholarship Clearinghouse is a program that assists college-bound students in finding and applying for college scholarships. JLM maintains a comprehensive and easy to use database of scholarships to assist students living in West Texas. We simplify the overwhelming application process by allowing each student to search for scholarships based on their specific needs, achievements and future plans. Additionally, the committee awards a scholarship to exceptional students utilizing the program.

Suits With Skills. Imagine leaving your home, your comfort zone, with only your children and the clothes on your back. For over 500 women and children in the Midland area last year, this was their harsh reality. JLM is passionate about helping survivors of domestic abuse break free from repression to lead self-sufficient and healthy lives. Partnering with Safe Place of the Permian Basin and Buckner Children and Family Services, JLM provides a 12-week session program called Suits with Skills. The sessions are designed to teach abuse survivors to build resumes, learn interview skills, exhibit a professional appearance and communicate effectively in the workplace. Upon completion, each participant receives interview appropriate attire.

HopeWorks. This new project partners with Rays of Hope, a local non-profit outreach program, to facilitate an 11-week creative arts HopeWorks program for children who have experienced death.

Kids First. This new project partners with Centers for Children and Families in order to help facilitate their Kids First Program, a supervised visitation and exchange program for children separated from their parents. The committee members will monitor visits as well as plan and execute a Christmas party and end-of-year party

Journey Summer Camp Again partnering with Rays of Hope, the committee will be in charge of planning and following through with a one week summer camp for children who have experienced death, divorce, separation or other painful transitions.

Volunteers in Midland is a clearinghouse for carefully-curated member volunteer opportunities.Through Volunteers in Midland, each Active Member of the Junior League of Midland will give four hours of her time to a selected nonprofit assistance activity. A Junior League of Midland committee will review these activity applications to ensure that each project meets the League’s specifications, as well as promotes the League’s community objectives.

Nonprofit organizations should complete the application, available on our website, for each particular program that is in need of additional volunteers or assistance from our members. 

Reading Olympics is a literacy program created by The Junior League of Midland, Inc. (the League).  This 12- week program is designed to take elementary-aged children through literary adventures that will foster a love of reading. To accomplish our goal, we are partnering with the Boys and Girls Club of Midland.
