We’re sure you’ve heard about our fundraising event,
Shotguns and Stilettos. This event is the only major fundraiser for The Junior
League of Midland, Inc. so the funds that are raised at this event go to
support our community partnerships and projects throughout the entire year. Here is a snapshot
of a few of our projects that we are able to gift the community thanks to
Shotguns and Stilettos!
Face the Race-This
event increases self-esteem in young girls by training them to complete a 5K
run. However, this “training” is not merely physical, it is a much deeper
training that builds confidence in girls at the critical ages of 13-14. At the
end of Face The Race, these girls have not only built lasting friendships, but
have learned to set goals and achieve them.
Reading Olympics-This
program is meant to instill a love of reading in elementary-aged children.
Reading Olympics is a 12-week program, partnering with the Boys and Girls Club
of Midland, to take children through literary adventures and teach them how to
enjoy reading. Additionally, this placement is a prime example of our focus
area of “Keeping Kids in School-Every Age, Every Stage.”
Suits With Skills-Partnering
with Safe Place of the Permian Basin and Buckner Children & Family
Services, the Junior League of Midland helps survivors of domestic abuse lead
self-sufficient and healthy lives by providing a 12-week program, Suits With
Skills. Through the program, abuse survivors learn how to build resumes,
exhibit a professional appearance and communicate effectively in the workplace.
These are just a few of the many programs our Shotguns and
Stilettos event funds go to support. Other programs include Scholarship
Clearinghouse, HopeWorks, Kids First, Journey Summer Camp, and Volunteers in
Midland. So, thanks in advance for supporting Shotguns and Stilettos, and
helping the Junior League build a better Midland!
